Although air-freight food is, in almost all cases bad. It accounts for less than 1% of food transport but around 11% of total CO2 emissions from all food transport. This cannot be right.
The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and the Carbon Trust are currently working to formulate a method for calculating LCAs for consumer labeling or advise in the future. Major food manufacturers and suppliers are already jumping on board.
